An annual report that reflects a year of global uncertainty, balancing difficult realities with the impact, resilience and hope found in the communities Concern supports.
The Background
Each year, Concern Worldwide’s annual report reflects not just what the organisation has done, but the context in which it has been working. In 2024, that context was defined by overlapping crises. Conflict, climate and displacement affected multiple regions at once, making it difficult to tell a single, contained story.
The report needed to acknowledge this reality while remaining clear and accessible. It had to bring together governance, financial reporting and programme information, while still making space for the people at the centre of Concern’s work.
The challenge was to create a structure that could hold complexity without overwhelming the reader, and to present difficult subject matter in a way that felt both honest, respectful and positive.
The Idea
Rather than focusing on a single theme, the report is shaped by a balance between challenge and impact.
The realities faced by communities are presented clearly, without simplification. At the same time, the outcomes of Concern’s work are given equal weight. This creates a steady rhythm throughout the report, where moments of difficulty are met with moments of progress and resilience.
A restrained use of yellow runs through the report, drawing attention to key stories, voices and moments of impact. Used carefully, it highlights presence and agency, helping important details stand out without overwhelming the page.
The Execution
The report is designed as an editorial publication rather than a purely administrative document. Layouts are structured to guide the reader through complex content with clarity and care, creating a sense of pace that supports both quick navigation and deeper reading.
A softly tinted background runs throughout, creating a calm and consistent visual setting. This allows imagery, data and text to sit comfortably together, while supporting longer periods of reading.
