Preventing, Supporting and Caring
The Irish Cancer Society is a community of patients, survivors, volunteers, supporters, health and social care professionals, and researchers who transform people's experiences and outcomes through their support services and research. Having designed their 2018 Annual Report, we were honoured to be given the opportunity to work with the Irish Cancer Society again this year.

The Approach
In the wake of the positive reception to the 2018 Annual Report, we looked to capitalise on its success and push the creative further this time. Throughout our briefing sessions, all parties agreed that the report's main focus would be stories of the Irish Cancer Society people, the personalities who provide support, and the individuals that the Irish Cancer Society has helped and supported.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic's impact, we had to find a creative way to bring the Annual Report's case studies to life. Since we were unable to use photographic portraits of the individuals in the case studies, we collaborated with illustrator Lydia Hughes instead to help tell our stories. Lydia's minimalist technique and adroit use of colour really complemented the style of the Irish Cancer Society's Annual Report from 2018.

The Execution
As this year's report featured several illustrations, the use of colour throughout the piece was critical and, as a result, was approached in a different way to the previous year's document. The finished report strikes the right balance between striking design and bold illustration to express the Irish Cancer Society's people's personal stories meaningfully.

This is the second year we have worked with Red Dog on our annual report. The process they have in place runs really well, and they are adaptable, accommodating and a great bunch to work with! Their design team has taken our brand identity to a new level, and we're looking forward to working with them on other projects in the future.
