Lanthorn

A clear and confident new brand for a commercial real estate business built on experience, ambition and long-term thinking.

The Background

Lanthorn is a newly established commercial real estate investor, manager and advisor operating exclusively within the Irish market. Led by a highly experienced senior team and supported by a multidisciplinary group of investment, asset management and finance specialists, Lanthorn was created to bring clarity, confidence and momentum to complex property portfolios.

While the business draws on decades of experience, the ambition was firmly future-facing. Lanthorn needed a brand that could stand on its own, signalling professionalism, trust and prestige without feeling remote or overly corporate. The identity had to speak to professional, well-capitalised investors while also supporting long-term brand building rather than short-term acquisition.

The Idea

Our starting point was to define what Lanthorn stands for beyond its service offering. The name itself became central to the strategy. Derived from an Old English word for lanterns found in early lighthouses, a Lanthorn represents illumination, guidance and precision. As a beacon, it reflects the role the business plays in navigating complexity and uncovering opportunity in an ever-evolving property market.

This idea of clarity and direction informed the wider brand strategy. Rather than focusing on individual transactions or assets, the brand needed to communicate a sense of enduring value, steady progress and confidence built over time. The result is a positioning rooted in longevity and trust, with a tone that feels intelligent, assured and quietly ambitious.

Execution

The identity was built around a strong wordmark, placing full emphasis on the Lanthorn name. Crafted as a bespoke, calligraphic logo, the wordmark takes cues from historic forms of skilled communication, including scribes and stonemasons, whose work was designed to last. Subtle calligraphic details bring a human quality and sense of craft, balanced by an uppercase structure that conveys strength and authority.

The wider visual language draws inspiration from Connemara marble, chosen as a symbol of resilience, prestige and Irish provenance. Its distinctive green tones informed a rich colour palette anchored in olive and racing green hues, supported by crisp whites and a bright lime accent for clarity and warmth in digital spaces. An abstract, watercolour interpretation of the marble introduces texture and depth, used sparingly as a controlled signature element throughout the brand.

Typography plays a key role in reinforcing the balance between heritage and modernity. The primary typeface, Larken, brings the familiarity and trust of a classic serif while introducing contemporary details that add energy and refinement across all communications.

The brand was brought to life through a fully redesigned website, conceived as a polished and confident platform for the business. The digital experience brings together the identity system, colour palette and typographic hierarchy to present Lanthorn’s portfolio and expertise with clarity and restraint, supporting long-term brand building and future growth.

Together, identity, imagery and digital design come together to create a brand presence that feels assured, intelligent and enduring. Lanthorn is positioned as a guiding light in Irish commercial real estate, combining deep expertise with a clear sense of direction and purpose from day one.

Discover how we developed a confident & streamlined digital platform for Lanthorn.

Lanthorn’s website needed to convey credibility and confidence from the outset, while providing a calm and intuitive experience for investors, partners and industry stakeholders.

Working closely with their team, we developed a clear information architecture that prioritises clarity and ease of navigation. Key areas such as the firm’s strategy, portfolio and leadership team are structured in a way that allows visitors to quickly understand both the depth of experience behind the business and its future ambitions. Their comprehensive portfolio is segmented into easy to use filters to allow for a streamlined journey where users can easily access the information they need without unnecessary complexity.

The site is built on a flexible, easy-to-manage CMS, allowing the internal team to maintain and update content as the business grows and its portfolio expands. From the outset, performance and scalability were key considerations, resulting in a modular, optimised build approach. The site was developed with a clean, lightweight front-end and structured content to support SEO, ensuring strong performance across devices while allowing the platform to evolve alongside the company.

Design-wise, the website draws directly from the core identity system, translating the brand’s sense of clarity, confidence and prestige into a digital environment. The bespoke wordmark, refined typography and deep green colour palette create a strong and recognisable visual presence, while generous spacing and restrained layouts reinforce the brand’s calm and assured tone. Subtle references to the wider visual language, including abstract Connemara marble textures, introduce depth and texture without overwhelming the experience. These elements are used sparingly to maintain a sense of focus and sophistication, allowing the content and messaging to remain front and centre.

The result is a digital platform that reflects Lanthorn’s positioning as a guiding presence within Irish commercial real estate. Clear, confident and built for the long term, the website provides a strong foundation for the firm as it continues to grow its portfolio and reputation within the market.

We worked with Mary Doherty’s team on the development of the Lanthorn brand. The whole process was extremely valuable.

From the outset, they helped us step back and think clearly about our positioning and what we wanted our business to stand for. The naming process in particular was very well run and led to a name that genuinely reflects the direction of our business.

What I appreciated most was the balance between strategy and practicality. The work wasn’t just theory - it gave us a clear foundation for how we present ourselves and talk about what we do.

We are delighted with the result and would happily recommend Mary and the team to others looking for brand strategy or naming/identity support.
