How do you move one of Ireland’s most recognised professional brands forward, without leaving behind what made it matter in the first place? Very carefully.
The Background
The Law Society of Ireland has been at the heart of the solicitors’ profession for generations. It educates, represents and regulates more than 13,000 solicitors, while promoting excellence in legal education, professional practice and access to justice.
With a new organisational strategy setting a clear direction for the future, the Society needed a brand system that could move with it.
The answer wasn’t to rip everything up and start again. This was a respected institution with a rich heritage and a highly recognisable identity. Our challenge was to build on those strengths while creating a brand that felt more relevant to the organisation it is today - and the one it wants to be tomorrow.
Heritage and modernity. Authority and accessibility. Tradition and change.
Getting the balance right was everything.
The Idea
Evolution, not revolution.
Our job was to turn organisational strategy into something people could see, hear and feel.
Working closely with stakeholders across the Society, we translated its ambitions into a clear brand strategy - defining what the Law Society stands for, how it should express itself and, importantly, how it should make people feel.
From positioning and personality to visual direction, every decision had a reason behind it. We challenged what needed challenging. Kept what deserved keeping. And strengthened the things that could work harder.
The result is unmistakably the Law Society of Ireland. Just clearer, warmer and more confident about where it’s going.
The Execution
Respect the past. Design for the future.
At the heart of the evolved identity is Lady Justice - a familiar symbol, carefully simplified to give it greater clarity, confidence and flexibility across today’s digital and physical environments. We created a true ‘Irish’ Lady Justice - no sword but a harp.
But some occasions call for a little more ceremony.
So alongside the primary marque, we delivered a new heritage crest for formal and ceremonial use. Together, the two identities give the Society the best of both worlds: a contemporary brand designed for everyday communication, with its history and tradition always close at hand.
A refreshed typographic and colour palette brings greater consistency and character. A more natural tone of voice makes communications clearer and more human. Digital brand guidelines and a practical suite of templates give people across the organisation the tools to put the brand to work, from presentations and publications to social media, events and everyday communications.
The result is one coherent brand that can flex across a remarkably broad audience - from members and future solicitors to Government, the judiciary and the wider public.
A respected institution, moving confidently forward.
No unnecessary reinvention. No change for change’s sake. Just a thoughtful evolution that gives the Law Society of Ireland the clarity, confidence and consistency to communicate its leadership for years to come.
