A progress-led annual report that captures ambition, momentum and a shared journey towards a better future for dogs.
The Background
Dogs Trust Ireland is the country’s largest dog welfare charity, working to make Ireland a safe and happy place for dogs. 2024 marked the third consecutive year we partnered with the organisation on its annual report, building on a deep understanding of both what Dogs Trust Ireland does and, crucially, where it is going.
The organisation is in the midst of delivering long-term strategic initiatives, making steady and meaningful progress towards its ambition. Rather than spotlighting individual campaigns or activities, the team wanted the annual report to communicate the bigger picture: a sense of direction, purpose and collective momentum. Every achievement in 2024 mattered, but as part of a wider journey rather than a series of isolated moments.
The Idea
Titled We’re on a Pawsome Journey, the report reframes the annual review as a narrative of progress. The concept focuses on movement, direction and intent, showing how each milestone contributes to a longer-term vision for dog welfare in Ireland.
Instead of centring on individual initiatives, the idea was to visualise the organisation’s ambition as a continuous path. Achievements are presented as steady steps forward, reinforcing the message that real impact is built over time through commitment, care and collaboration. This approach allowed the report to balance optimism with credibility, celebrating progress while keeping eyes firmly on the road ahead.
Execution
To bring the journey to life, a distinctive yellow path weaves its way through the report, acting as both a visual guide and a symbolic thread. This device leads readers through strategy, impact and governance, reinforcing the idea of shared direction and purpose.
A suite of bespoke illustrations was developed to mark key milestones throughout the year. While rooted firmly in the Dogs Trust brand, the illustrations introduce freshness and flexibility, allowing moments, emotions and scenarios to be depicted that photography alone could not capture. Each illustration represents a meaningful step along the journey, used with intention rather than decoration.
Photography plays an equally important role. Two photoshoots were commissioned: one capturing candid, day-to-day moments that reflect the humanity and dedication of the Dogs Trust Ireland team, and another focused on the Board of Directors. Board members were photographed seated on yellow chairs, a simple but confident device that nods to the organisation’s core brand colours while delivering a contemporary and authoritative portrait series.
Together, the yellow path, illustrations and photography create an editorial rhythm that balances warmth with clarity. The design aligns closely with the Dogs Trust Ireland identity, while pushing it forward in a way that feels optimistic, confident and future-focused.
Our contribution extended beyond design. We supported copywriting across the report, shaping a cohesive, progress-driven narrative and a consistent tone of voice. This ensured that strategy, data and storytelling worked together seamlessly, allowing the organisation’s ambition, passion and impact to come through on every page.
The result is an annual report that does more than look back. It reflects where Dogs Trust Ireland is now, while clearly signalling where it is headed next. Confident, human and full of purpose, the 2024 report captures an organisation firmly on the right pawth.
